Boy Meets Wall

Temper, temper! Not long ago Dallin was sent to the corner, and he was not happy about it. This is what happens when Dallin stands in the corner too long. Boy meets wall. Heel meets drywall.

Richard was not happy--to say the least--to come home to a hole in the wall. Literally. He has worked in what one might term a "hole in the wall" before and has been grateful to come home to a clean, tidy house. Needless to say, he was just as upset as I was over the damage our home suffered. So upset, in fact, that he asked Dallin to pay for the repair of the wall. It took him a few weeks and a lot of lawn mowing, but Dallin earned enough money to pay for the supplies necessary to right his wrong. Then Richard fixed it.

First, Richard had to cut a hole bigger than the damage to allow for a scrap piece of wood to be inserted in the wall.

The scrap of drywall now could be placed and secured to the scrap piece of wood, to cover the hole.

The edges of the drywall insert were covered with special tape to cover the seams.

Next, Richard had to cover the seams with multiple layers of drywall mud to smooth out the hole.

After sanding the patch, the spot was ready for a fresh coat of wall texture and paint.

Now that the wall has been repainted, the damage is undetectable. How grateful I am that my husband is such a good handyman. His skills and willingness to fix things has saved us a lot of money.

It was a tough lesson for us to teach, and a difficult lesson for Dallin to learn, but I'm pretty sure that the next time Dallin loses his temper, he won't damage anything.

Love, Cara

tough lesson indeed, but a necessary one. It is so hard sometimes to do the right thing as a parent, isn't it? It's hard to watch our children suffer for their mistakes and then have to try to "fix" them. But, without a little tough love once in a while, they'd grow up thinking actions have no consequences.

Happy that Richard was able to repair the damage. Did Dallin have to help with the repair? Good for you for sticking to your guns and making him earn the money for the repairs!
